More about me.

What lead me to Birth Work?

Background:

I had the experience of being a young, single first time birthing person back in 2011. I did not have a support network, or a partner or a clue what I was doing. I tried my best to learn as much as I could about natural birth and how to advocate for myself and my body but as many of you know the hospital is an intimidating place. The birth of my child ended up being not only traumatic but was an avalanche of medical interventions that were not truly needed. As I laid in a dark room all by myself holding a new baby, stunned at what had just happened to my body and nervous system, I knew that I never wanted another person so feel the way I felt.

It took me a bit to make it here (Birth work), but I hope that my experience can help me better serve and care for Birthing people who have had similar trauma in their lives and help them reclaim their power through birth.

What Kind of Doula Care Do I Provide?:

I always strive to first listen to my clients, to really hear their desires, concerns and to listen for support that they might need to achieve those goals (weather birth or postpartum clients).

I will always provide care that is inclusive for all, trauma informed, harm reduction and consent based.

I will always help to advocate for my clients. In most popularized Doula trainings individuals are taught not to speak for their clients or to express clients wishes. I would never try to take someones voice away but I will make the promise to my clients that I will speak up if I see harm being done to them, their babies or their families. That can sometimes looks like reminding Medical Staff to ask for your consent before touching you or holding them accountable for not being forthcoming.

I will always work to create a supporting environment for my clients because this brings me joy. It fills my cup to see parents supported and thriving, during birth and postpartum.

What Kind of Training do I have?:

I pride myself on always being curious, curious about how to remain in the mindset of a student. I promise myself and my clients that I will always be learning, and unlearning better ways to support my community.
