More about me.

What lead me to Birth Work?

Background:

I had the experience of being a young, single first time birthing person back in 2011. I did not have a support network, or a partner or a clue what I was doing. I tried my best to learn as much as I could about natural birth and how to advocate for myself and my body but as many of you know the hospital is an intimidating place. The birth of my child ended up being not only traumatic but was an avalanche of medical interventions that were not truly needed. As I laid in a dark room all by myself holding a new baby, stunned at what had just happened to my body and nervous system, I knew that I never wanted another person so feel the way I felt.

It took me a bit to make it here (Birth work), but I hope that my experience can help me better serve and care for Birthing people who have had similar trauma in their lives and help them reclaim their power through birth.

What Kind of Doula Care Do I Provide?:

My approach to Doula care is unique to me. My goal is to great a wholistic approach to support that looks at the larger picture of birth and postpartum care - meaning I work to find ways that make the birthing person feel supported both mentally and physically. To find ways to make sure their basic needs being met, are they eating and sleeping well, do they have safe spaces to process birth and postpartum.

Something that sets me apart from other Doula’s would be that I value and enjoy getting to know my clients and work to make genuine connections. Some ways that I accomplish this would be - to always make the effort to check in regularly, allow space for questions and to hold space for them in my own everyday life.

I believe that the more information we have the more empowered we feel and this mentality motivates my work to create safe spaces for folks to ask questions and learn new skills to best support them during labor and after.
